Tencent, Inc. has announced the launch of the League of Legends Pro League Qualifiers in China. It is analogous with the qualification tournaments held or ongoing in North America and Europe, with winning teams qualifying for the year-long Pro League competitive program. Tencent Holdings is the third largest internet company in the world, running behind Google and Amazon.com. The company purchased Riot Games in 2011.

They didn’t purchase Riot fully like your post seems to imply. They purchased a chunk of shares in Riot and the publishing rights for LoL in China. Just like Garena did for Korea and South East Asia.
